Fue algo místico, algo inusual en mi bagaje musical, pero que necesitaba vivenciar, algo no esperado. Quizás un paréntesis en mis influencias, pero que rellenó esos pequeños espacios de mi cerebro musical siempre ávidos de nuevas emociones.

Su música nos transporta a mundos mágicos, sus canciones nos maravillan al mismo tiempo que nos conmueven y sus letras hacen aflorar sentimientos vividos en el pasado que deseamos perduren en el futuro.

Dos voces para una misma banda, pese a que una predomina sobre la otra aún sin saberlo, tres guitarras conjuntadas, líricas, armónicas y vigorosas pese a su calidez, un bajo sensual, que susurra y te acompaña en el viaje, una batería folclórica, que reparte sentimientos al mismo tiempo que intensifica la pasión y un piano, que se hace sentir, pese a que se conjunta perfectamente, como el resto, para repartir emociones en cada una de las canciones que componen su álbum debut.

Sin duda un soplo de aire fresco que llenó de nuevas ilusiones mi panorama musical que llevaba tiempo desierto de nuevas aventuras; aventuras musicales que narran acontecimientos, que inmortalizan esos momentos de tu vida y que recordaras pese a que las emociones puedan ser contrarias a tus sentimientos. 

It was something mystical, something unusual in my musical background, but I needed to live that; something unexpected. Maybe a break from my influences, but they filled those small spaces of my musical brain, always hungry for new emotions. 

Their music takes us to magical worlds, their songs marvel us as well as move us, and their lyrics bring out feelings experienced in the past that we want to endure in the future. 

Two voices for the same band, although one prevails over the other without knowing, three guitars joined, lyrical, harmonious and vigorous despite his warm, a sensual bass, that whisper and accompanies you on the journey, a folkloric battery bursting feelings while intensifying the passion, and a piano, which its felt, although perfectly together, like the rest, to deliver emotions in each of the songs that make up their debut album.

Con la desaparición de RATM y tras mis experiencias con Soundgarden, escuchar su primer sencillo fue como sentir el renacer de pasadas sensaciones.

Sensaciones pasadas porqué daba lo mejor de 2 bandas pero al mismo tiempo aportaba un sonido personal, que dotó a esta nueva banda de estilo propio, de un lugar entre los grandes.

Durante su corta discografía (únicamente 3 largos), nos dejaron un gran número de sencillos que hacían aflorar esas sensaciones tan buscadas y tan difíciles de encontrar. La guitarra y los acordes de RATM, con la voz inconfundible de Cornell y ese nuevo estilo, que recordaba pasadas épocas musicales, pero que te transportaban a nuevas experiencias musicales acordes a la evolución del grunge.

Sin duda el mejor recuerdo de la banda, desparecida en 2007, fue (aparte de su descubrimiento), la inclusión de varias canciones en la mítica película “Miami vice”. Mis dos pasiones; la música y el cine (ó 2 de ellas), conjuntadas a la perfección.

Una pena que no podamos deleitarnos con nuevas creaciones de esta banda, nuevas canciones llenas de fabulosas guitarras, voces desgarradas, ritmos increíbles, y contundencia sonora que mejoren nuestras vivencias sonoras, que nos hagan evolucionar hacía nuevos sonidos y nuevas sensaciones.

With the disappearance of RATM and after my experiences with Soundgarden, hear his first single was like feeling the revival of past sensations.

A Perfect Circle

Fue un mar de confusiones cuando escuche su primer sencillo en los años dorados de mi MTV2; sonaba a algo conocido, veía algo desconocido. Los sentimientos se entrecruzaban, no discernían, pero lo asumían como algo propio.

Las turbulencias emocionales se esclarecieron y dejaron paso al nacimiento de una nueva banda. Su descubrimiento asombraba, tanto por los componentes como por el sonido.

Su obra, corta. Únicamente 2 largos, más un versionado.

Cada largo presenta un estilo diferente, un sentido, pero se pueden enlazar al quedar plasmados en ellos esa voz que supera cualquier otra aproximación que cualquier otro vocalista pretenda realizar.

También encontramos similitudes y diferencias en las guitarras, no mejoran ni empeoran, son distintas y en cada uno de los grandes sencillos, encontramos esas guitarras de rasgan tus sentimientos y liberan ese potencial que da alas a la mente.

La batería, más presente en esos contundentes sencillos, guía y te envuelve en los demás.

Analizando sus dos principales álbumes me quedo en el escalón número trece. Por la evolución, por la similitud, por esa sensación de progresión de la idealizada herramienta, por la espera desesperada.

Mención especial a su tema vacant, la canción más apasionante e inquietante de su discografía.

De la época de la MTV, fue uno de los 3 elegidos y de los que con el tiempo han conservado mi interés.

Pese a su variación musical a lo largo de su discografía y el cambio de estética, su música sigue teniendo ese plus que conecta sensaciones y aflora sentimientos.

Sus inicios fueron lo mejor de la banda, sin embargo, su giro musical conserva gran parte del estilo que los encumbro y sigue la línea de mis demandas: Guitarras potentes, rítmicas, que describen sensaciones, un bajo presente y sonoro, una batería potente, diversa y pausada en ocasiones y una voz que sin duda da esa personalidad a la banda, marcada por el rap en sus inicios y más contundente en sus últimos trabajos, pero que conserva esas pausas rítmicas que nos guían por las letras de sus canciones.

De sus largos me quedo con el que supuso su debut oficial, donde podemos encontrar los grandes sencillos que marcaron época junto con otras bandas.

De los sencillos me quedo con el presentado, sin embargo siempre que llega a tus oídos cualquiera de sus sencillos se repite la historia: recuerdos de emociones pasadas, sentimientos presentes y sensaciones perdurables en el tiempo.

A la espera de su inminente nuevo trabajo, la discografía de los Foo nos deja grandes sencillos que hacen recordar en sus principios a los orígenes de la banda, pero que con el paso del tiempo han dotado de personalidad propia a la misma.

Como en innumerables casos, los inicios pausados con esa voz introductoria previa a la exaltación sonora son un distintivo en sus grandes temas y una característica siempre presente en mis gustos musicales. Luego, podemos disfrutar de sus contundentes guitarras, de su característica y reincidente batería, y de esa voz que exacerba tu ánimo, que propone ilusiones, que descubre sensaciones y que te transporta al limbo de la despreocupación para hacer sentirte enorme en tus posibilidades.

Sin duda, rock puro que descoloca nuestros sentidos para ordenarlos en perfecta conjunción sonora.

“Just a day” los conocí gracias a su sencillo y a la MTV. Me pareció un grupo alegre, diferente, con ganas de transmitir sensaciones, con la fuerza de aquellas bandas que pretenden aportar su variante en un mundo sonoro en el que todo recuerda a sensaciones vividas.

Una vez alertada mi inquietud por conocer, en 2003 descubrí a esta banda en toda su magnitud y debo decir que fueron meses de constantes sensaciones, de profundas emociones y de buenas vivencias percibidas.

Como con otras bandas, su primera época (más cercana al Rock Alternativo y al Grunge) evoca sensaciones más intensas en mis alterados sentidos, pero sin duda lo que más me deleitó fueron las sensaciones relacionadas con otras bandas que me hicieron renacer emociones del pasado ligadas a aquella época dorada en la que mis sentidos adoptaban y acunaban un sonido y un estilo propio.

A partir de entonces y pese a que el grupo ha seguido una línea más comercial, debo reconocer que siguen ese patrón que hace que una banda, ocupe parte del intelecto de mi memoria. Melodías atrayentes, una buena dosis de guitarras que se alteran en el transcurso del tiempo y una voz que despierta emociones.

Fue uno de esos primeros grupos que descubrí en mi etapa radiofónica americana del Winamp. Fueron cuatro años de emociones y sentidos que se extinguieron cuando el grupo cambio de vocalista y perdió con ello su identidad; como en otros casos nos queda su legado que nadie podrá borrar de las listas sonoras de nuestras vidas.

Sus dos primeros largos bajo el liderazgo de Matisyn le dieron a la banda la categoría de revelación y será sin duda el trabajo por el que serán recordados. Su posterior discografía pierde la identidad al perder la voz que guiaba a la banda hacía la luz de la consagración.

Sus singles, con inicios melódicos, pasan progresivamente a esas guitarras que tanto atraen mi atención, contundentes a la vez que inquietantes y místicas. La batería, siempre presente, acompaña en el transcurso de las travesías sonoras que forman su canciones y finalmente, la voz de Kevin, da ese plus que hace que una banda se diferencie del resto y atraiga y estimule esas emociones que otras no llegan a inquietar. Sin duda un espíritu que no lograran rememorar.

Me gusta recordar a la banda por aquel LP, pero me fascina también el giro y la evolución de la banda en futuros y presentes sencillos. Muchos me recuerdan a WP, muchos se diferencian buscando esa evolución, esa madurez, esa búsqueda de su presente, esa búsqueda por reencontrarse.

Esa búsqueda de nuevos sonidos no ha hecho que Deftones pierda en sus grandes sencillos esa característica que les diferencia; inicios melódicos, insinuantes (en ocasiones), para luego pasar a una guitarra poderosa, unido a una batería que siempre esta presente, y sobre todo ello, una voz melódica en ocasiones y violenta en otras, conjugada a la perfección para darle al sencillo momentos de exaltación musical combinados con pausas e instantes de reflexión sonora, que preceden a nuevos momentos de auge y excelencia sonora.

Los descubrí nuevamente gracias a la MTV2. La sensación es fácil de recordar y difícil de transmitir. Sus inicios fueron impactantes por la mezcla de todo aquello de rompía con el panorama musical actual: Unas guitarras potentes (aunque también melódicas) y una combinación inusual para la época de sintetizadores, remezclas, rap y sobre todo ello, una potente voz que desgarra para conjuntarse perfectamente con los sonidos, en un sinfín de grandes singles que hacen de cada largo un mundo por explorar.

Su música ha ido evolucionando desde el nu-metal de sus inicios hasta el rock más alternativo de su tercer álbum, pero es su reciente cuarto álbum el que pone punto y final a una década de magnificas emociones vividas y el que da paso a una nueva banda que recuerda a LP sin ser LP, una banda igual de inquietante y cautivadora como LP.

I newly discovered thanks to MTV2. The feeling is easy to remember and difficult to transmit. Reivindicativos por naturaleza, su estilo difiere de la cultura que ha rodeado mi mundo sonoro, pero su estilo, diferente a las propuestas de su tiempo, ha sabido atraer esas sensaciones que hacen de esta banda, una de las elegidas.

Rotundos en su discografía, sus baladas son parte de la historia sonora de la música que contempla como el ritmo se asocia a los sentimientos y como los sentimientos se transforman en música para narrar la preocupación de la sociedad.

Recopilando la historia del grupo podemos recordar numerosos singles que ya forman parte de nuestra historia vivida y que nos acompañan en nuestro recorrido sonoro. Canciones asociadas a buenos estados de ánimo, canciones que alternan dentro de su estructura momentos de calma con momentos de exaltación, momentos a recordar, que siempre son oportunos de volver a vivenciar.

Sin duda me quedo con su “American Idiot”, por todo lo que representa, por todas las vivencias vividas, incluida su estimulante y  memorable “Broadway adaptation”.

Fue un gran concierto en el que nos recordaron que la música es atemporal y los sentimientos siempre están presentes.

Los conocí antes de conocerlos, en la “Cage du Mandraque”, luego los volví a conocer con su “Pure Morning”, canción que aun hoy en día hace que sienta esa sensación de ingravidez asociada a la primera vez que la escuché.

Pese a su formación básica, sus grandes sencillos tienen esa esencia que hace aflorar sensaciones  en mentes despiertas a viajes por nuevos sonidos. Canciones rítmicas, con guitarras  recurrentes, una batería constante y una voz que sin duda forma parte también del alma Mater de la banda.

Su abanico de grandes sencillos ha ido variando y han ido dejando atrás esa contundencia de sus primeros largos para conformar un repertorio más pop-rock. Como en otros casos su primera etapa fue la que más me impacto, fue una época más reivindicativa y eléctrica (1996-2000) que fue dejando paso a una versión más melancólica, con tintes electrónicos y con apuntes de su mejor versión. Sin embargo, siempre se aprecia esa característica de la banda que hace recordar el porqué que su interesante propuesta y el porqué de su especial formación, el porqué de ser elegidos para formar parte del mundo sonoro que nos acompaña y nos influye en nuestras vidas, presentes y futuras.

La definición por excelencia de su música es Speed. Sus sencillos son vertiginosos, rotundos en su concepción, dinámicos y envolventes. Todo ello gracias a su característica batería, a sus eléctricas guitarras, a su bajo siempre presente y en ocasiones principal y a la voz de su cantante, que durante la corta duración de sus himnos transmiten esa vigorosidad que definen sus grandes éxitos.

Después de su época dorada (Smash -1998) nada volvió a ser lo mismo, pero aún consiguieron aunar aquello que les había transportado a ser el centro del Universo en los sencillos que nos han ido dejando en sus posteriores discos. Dejando notas en cada uno de ellos, de aquello que podían haber sido, pero que no quisieron ser.

Recopilando todos sus grandes sencillos y sus otras muy interesantes canciones a lo largo de sus amplia discografía, apreciamos su evolución, admiramos su música, agradecemos su postulado, reconocemos su singularidad y recordamos sentimientos pasados y épocas vividas.

Los conocí como antaño, de la mano de la BSO de una película (The Punisher). Tenían eso que tanto alerta a mis sentidos: una buena guitarra, una voz potente, una batería que acompaña y buenas melodías.

Su primer largo me acompaño en numerosas ocasiones por Collserola en mis momentos de relax de mi etapa a media jornada.

Sus canciones tenían eso que tanto me entusiasma en un sencillo. Cada canción era como un viaje, el cual afrontas con cierto desconcierto. Comienzas con esa confusión de algo nuevo, de algo por descubrir, pero, después de esos primeros instantes intrigantes en los que te dejas llevar por las sensaciones, hace que confíes en el camino a recorrer, hace que navegues por sus composiciones deleitándote del trayecto, hace que demandes un final lejano, un final que continúe en un nuevo puerto desde el que volver a repetir rutas y sensaciones vividas.

Sin duda fueron un grupo con ese toque diferente para la época. Con paciencia esperé su nuevo largo, pero cual fue mi decepción cuando llegaron a mis oídos los nuevos sonidos de la banda. La MTV2 me los presentó en aquellos tiempos dorados en los que nuevas bandas captaban mis sentidos con sonidos nuevos y desconocidos hasta la época.

Limp Bizkit, como otros grupos en aquellos años, presentaban un estilo novedoso, pusieron un toque diferente al nu-metal de la época, evolucionaron en el estilo y transgredieron todos los límites.

Su fórmula se repetía: una batería muy rotunda y presente, un bajo constante y con presencia, una voz que podía variar entre la claridad sonora y la rotundez desgarradora, un DJ con momentos destacados y sobre todo, una guitarra perfecta. La combinación de todos ellos hace que la banda pertenezca a ese reducido grupo de bandas que no forman parte de la mediocridad sino que destacan por encima de lo sobresaliente para iluminar e influenciar al resto.

Sin duda todo ello ha hecho que esta banda capte la atención de mis exigentes sentidos, pero sin duda esa combinación se acentúa aun más cuando después del auge sonoro que deriva en rotundidad musical, introducen esas pausas melódicas y rítmicas que durante unos instantes lúcidos finalizan en un nuevo estallido sonoro que perfecciona el sentido y los sentimientos del single.

Mención especial tienen también sus admirables baladas.

The MTV2 presented to me in those golden days in which new bands captured my senses with sounds new, unknown until that time.

Limp Bizkit, like other groups in those years, had a new style, put a twist to the nu-metal of the time, evolved in style and transgressed all bounds.

10 Years

Los conocí en su tercer largo que supuso su éxito internacional; antes habían experimentado con 2 proyectos que difieren en relación al camino que están recorriendo actualmente.

Su primer álbum es más rotundo con voces más desgarradoras y guitarras más persistentes y contundentes, pero en los que ya se divisa algunas de esas introducciones más melódicas y acústicas que les darán ese sello particular que les hace diferentes en sus dos últimos trabajos.

Su segundo trabajo evoluciona, incluye ya su primer gran éxito, pero no acaba de tener esa identidad que alcanzaron en el tercero, quizás por la falta de Management, quizás por la falta de una buena discográfica en la que modular su sonido, quizás por esa chispa creativa que estaban buscando.

El tercer y el cuarto disco suponen un giro en el rumbo del grupo. Suenan diferentes, tienen una línea que guía sus composiciones, sus canciones son elaboradas, tienen esa combinación de guitarras que se mezclan a la perfección, conjuntándose y alternando los momentos de auge sonoro con momentos de lentitud melódica, la voz, ya amaestrada, surca sobre las guitarras y la batería deja de ser pesada para tener su protagonismo acompañando sinfónicamente la estructura de las canciones.

De las cuatro fantásticas, supongo que es la mas desconocida para mi. Quizás fue su corta discografía o quizás fue ese estilo propio que le diferenciaba del resto del grunge; sin embargo tiene ese factor que les hace diferentes, que hace que su música te traslade, te influencie, te haga recordar.

Igual que con otras bandas los conocí gracias a la BSO de Singles (referenciada numerosas veces). En dicha película actuaron en directo y en su citada OST tenemos uno de clásicos del grunge: “Would?”. Dicho single resume aquello que me atrajo de su música; inicios lentos, voces melódicas que alternan para transmitir sensaciones, emociones y sentimientos, guitarras que varían, que progresan, que te guían en la profundidad de las letras y baterías que acompañan, que perduran en su mensaje. Una gran combinación que en muchos otros sencillos buscan un mensaje más rotundo, más grunge, pero con el sello Alice in Chains, inconfundible cuando las guitarras y la voz de Layne se introducen en nuestros sentidos.

Su gran lista de sencillos supera la mortalidad de su vocalista y hace que le recordemos inmortal en sus canciones, presente en nuestros pensamientos, intemporal para la música, vigente en nuestro tiempo. RIP Layne.

Of the four great, I guess that is the most unknown to me. Perhaps it was his short discography or perhaps it was this style that distinguished him from the rest of grunge, but has that factor that makes them different, which makes his music moves you, influenced you, makes you remember.

As with other bands I met thanks to the Singles soundtrack (referenced numerous times). Acted in the film live and in OST have cited a grunge classic "Would?". This single summarizes what attracted me to his music slow start, alternating melodic vocals to convey feelings, emotions and feelings, guitars that range, they progress, that lead you deep into the lyrics and accompanying battery, which lasts your message. A great combination in many other singles looking for a more resounding message, more grunge, but with the seal Alice in Chains, unmistakable when the guitars and the voice of Layne are introduced into our senses.

12 Stones

Rock que puede pasar desapercibido para el publico español, pero que he tenido la oportunidad de ir siguiendo desde sus inicios en 2002. Rememorando sus discos me doy cuenta de la importancia de esta banda dentro de su género.

Supongo que la alternancia entre las suaves melodías de la primera guitarra combinadas con la característica contundencia de su segunda guitarra le da ese plus que hace que mis sentidos no atiendan a otros estímulos. A esa alternancia le acompaña una perfecta batería (un discreto bajo) y la voz de su vocalista que ejerce de líder sonoro alternando momentos de expresividad contenida con momentos de profunda exaltación. Sin duda una gran combinación que dota a la banda de esa singularidad solo atribuida a aquellas que nacen para despuntar.

Pese a ser una banda joven con 3 únicos álbumes me quedo con el primero. Sin embargo el segundo es igual de bueno y es ya en el tercero donde se comienza a atisbar un ligero cambio ya que no todas las canciones tienen esa contundencia que demando y pese que tiene esos singles que recuerdan sus inicios (muy buenos también) hay más contenido melódico. Veremos hacia donde caminan con su nuevo disco.

Rock that can pass unnoticed by the Spanish public, but I've had the opportunity to go along since its inception in 2002. Recalling his albums I realize the importance of this band within the genre.

I guess that alternating between sweet melodies of the first guitar combined with the strength of his second feature gives you that extra guitar that makes my senses do not attend to other stimuli. Despite being a young band with only 3 albums I prefer the first. Filter

Los descubrí en su segundo largo gracias a la MTV2 allá por el 99, después los redescubrí con su primer LP y me apasioné esperando sus nuevos trabajos.

Filter es un banda directa, eléctrica, contundente, con todos los ingredientes de aquellas bandas que pertenecen al elenco de bandas sagradas en mi catálogo: Guitarras que te marcan, que te acompañan en tu viaje adrenalítico, riffs envolventes y enérgicos, baterías presentes, rotundas, que varían en su desvariación, una voz que alterna en escala y que puede desgarrarse para incitar al oyente a un estado superior, todo ello, con esos inicios progresivos y esas pausas pausadas que derivan en nuevas y repetidas experiencias vividas.

Sus singles denotan fuerza y pureza, un rock evolucionado, una continuación más rockera y no tan industrial de NIN, un nuevo y diverso sonido.

Tuvieron sus tiempos extraños (Tyler Durden) que nos dejaron a “Army of anyone” (igualmente de anormales), pero nos volvieron a dejar un buen trabajo en el 2008, con singles que recuerdan sus comienzos y que repasan su discografía en cuanto a intensidad y potencia; un buen trabajo que nos hace pensar “what’s next”.

Mención especial tiene su colaboración con diferentes BSO, os dejo esta maravilla.

Soundgarden

Como con otras muchas bandas, los descubrí en la ya citada “Singles” (dónde incluso tocan en directo),  a partir de ahí me interesé por sus sonidos y por su corta trayectoria.

Puede que fuera la primera banda grunge de la escena Seattle, pero no la más recordada ni la más (re)conocida. Aparecieron antes que Nirvana y en sus filas encontramos a uno de los grandes creadores y vocalistas del panorama alternativo: Chris Cornell.

La banda se caracteriza sin duda por la desgarrada voz de su vocalista pero también por la controversia de sus letras, sus sonidos sucios, su batería constante y principal, y sus guitarras, que varían y desvarían formando todo ello sonidos que te hacen caer en esa profundidad sonora que ha ido evolucionando hacia una versión más comercial al final de su discografía.

Soundgarden forma parte de las grandes bandas creadoras del grunge y de la escena alternativa de Seattle y sin duda, el gran número de sencillos a recordar hacen del grupo uno de los más influyentes en este panorama musical.

Una vez disueltos allá por el 97 su vocalista emprendió otros caminos, caminos a recorrer, caminos a explorar, caminos que conectan con otros caminos ya visitados…
